Queensland Maroons 18-14 New South Wales Blues

Queensland claim victory in Origin opener

The Queensland Maroons have claimed a 18-14 win over the New South Wales Blues in the opening game of the 2020 State of Origin series. The match was played at Adelaide Oval in front of a crowd of over 20,000 people.

The Maroons were the first to score, with Cameron Munster crossing over in the 10th minute. The Blues hit back through Josh Addo-Carr, but the Maroons extended their lead to 12-4 at half-time thanks to a try from Dane Gagai.

The Blues came out firing in the second half, with tries from James Tedesco and Latrell Mitchell bringing them within two points of the Maroons. However, the Maroons held on for a famous victory, with Ben Hunt scoring the winning try in the 78th minute.

The win gives the Maroons a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three series. The second game will be played at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane on November 11.
